Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes is looking forward to presenting at the 2023 Michigan Townships Association Conference & Expo. We encourage everyone who is a Township official to register to attend the conference, as this is an educational and networking opportunity you won’t want to miss. As you design your conference experience with your professional objectives in mind, we would love for you to join us during the following educational sessions:
Special Considerations in Public Safety Employment
Tuesday, April 18 from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
Employing police and fire personnel brings with it certain additional obligations, special considerations, and specific rules. From increased collective bargaining rights to tricky run-ins with the First Amendment, there is no shortage of stumbling blocks for townships seeking harmonious employment relations with their police and fire personnel. Learn the ins and outs of public safety employment and avoid the pitfalls awaiting unwary township employers.
Presented by Township Attorneys Helen “Lizzie” Mills and Chad Karsten, Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC.
Know Your Boundaries
Wednesday, April 19 from 2:45-4 p.m.
Township boundaries can and do change due to annexation, city incorporation and detachment, Act 425 and cooperative development agreements, consolidations, and other adjustments. Transfers can occur from townships to cities and villages, from cities to townships, and even from one township to another township. Depending on the type of adjustment, they can happen before the State Boundary Commission or the County Board of Commissioners, or by agreement between the affected local units. Learn all about it in this informative presentation.
Presented by Township Attorneys William Fahey and Chris Patterson, Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC.
Township Trivia Showdown
Tuesday, April 18 from 11:30-12:30 o.m.
(Lunch provided; Giveaways!)
This year we are bringing back a fan-favorite session with a gameshow twist. Join us for a competitive game of Township trivia, where two teams compete for ultimate bragging rights. You—the gameshow contestant—will have the chance to showcase your individual knowledge of Township Law and the opportunity to learn something new.
We have put together a game board based on some of the most important questions Township Officials are asking. See if your team has what it takes to answer the questions correctly before our team of expert Municipal Attorneys weigh in on the correct answer. If you’d like to submit a question about Township Law for the chance to have it answered during the show, use the form below. Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC.
